Finished a project I've wanted to do for a long time, just in time for spring! Pictures are beneath the cut.

Pleased to meet you! )

*Note: A sakura-warashi is not a "real" japanese creature, per se. It's a name inspired by the zashiki-warashi and the ame-warashi from xxxHolic. A zashiki-warashi is a childlike spirit who brings good luck and fortune to a house, spelled using the kanji characters for zashiki (sitting room/parlor with a tatami mat) and warashi (an old term for "child"). Ergo, for the sakura-warashi, you would spell its name using sakura (cherry blossom) and warashi (child). Hence, cherry blossom child. Since the zashiki-warashi and the ame-warashi were both spirits, and both used "warashi" in their name, I figured I could use that to justify the name I gave to my creation (she's not a kami--not nearly powerful enough for that--but she is a spirit of sorts. Not a human spirit, or a ghost, but a spirit just the same. She's more of an attendant to my Konohanasakuya-hime doll.)

She might show up in that Japanese folklore/mythology Twilight knockoff I'm planning. I know the main character can see spirits, ghosts, and kami, so this little one might get a cameo, at least.

Mom and Dad keep saying I should make these and sell them, and...I'm not going to lie, that sounds like an appealing plan. I'm a little strapped for cash right now, so anything else I could do to get some extra money on the side would be appreciated. (I've considered getting a part-time job on the weekends, but am not sure how the legality of that would work since I also work full-time, plus I've tried working full time and part time at the same time with disastrous psychological results, but it's getting to a point where I might not have a choice if I want to start saving money).

The problem with that is that I've tried selling before through direct sales (Partylite) and actually ended up losing money, so I'm a bit wary to try again--I have no idea what to charge for my work. There's also the fact that I'm not the fastest crocheter on the planet, plus I don't use my own patterns when I make my dolls and I'm scared there might be legality issues. I believe Etsy also costs money to use, which I can't pay due to my aforementioned financial situation. I'm also scared that it might turn into more of a chore than a joy to do, which is part of the reason I so very much enjoy giving them as gifts to people I respect and care about...

So yeah. ..She's a personal project, anyway. I just needed to get that off my chest.
